The Department of Health has advised that the best way to report absences is to report attendance rates and not the individual cases of flu or other illnesses. Physicians have been using various methods to test for the flu; some doctors are running tests to verify H1N1/flu while others are using rapid flu tests and others are not testing at all. Our concern should be with the number of students who are out sick, regardless of the diagnosis, and how much that deviates from the norm. We have been closely monitoring the attendance rate per building since September 25 and are including that information for you so that you can compare the percentages week to week.
As a baseline, the approximate attendance rate at the end of the 2008-2009 school year was between 92 and 96%.
