Dear NASD Families, Staff, and Students,
I am pleased to share that power has been restored to Nazareth Area High School, and we will return to in-person learning tomorrow, Thursday, May 21st.
Over the past two days, the district has worked closely with our engineers and two electrical companies to assess the electrical switch failure impacting a portion of the high school’s main campus and identify a temporary solution that would safely restore power to the building.
While we are grateful to have a temporary resolution in place, the full repair and replacement of the electrical switch remains a larger capital project. As with many large-scale infrastructure projects, the district is also subject to equipment availability and supply chain lead times, which may impact the timeline for permanent repairs.
I wanted to share this information proactively because, while we are confident in the temporary solution currently in place, there is a possibility that intermittent power disruptions could occur again until the permanent repair is completed. Should that happen, we will continue to communicate promptly with families and staff and work to minimize disruptions to student learning.
Extracurricular activities, athletics, and scheduled community events will operate as normally scheduled beginning today, May 20th, at 3:00 PM.
I want to sincerely thank our students, families, and staff for their flexibility, patience, and support as we worked through this unexpected situation. I also appreciate the efforts of our facilities team, engineers, electrical contractors, and school staff who worked quickly to restore normal operations.
We look forward to welcoming students back to school tomorrow on a regular schedule.
Take care,
Dr. Resende

Dear NASD Families,
Nazareth Area High School is currently experiencing a power failure due to an electrical switch issue impacting approximately one-third of the high school’s main campus. As a result, in-person instruction will not take place tomorrow, Wednesday, May 20th, and learning will shift to a virtual format for the day.
Here are the Virtual Learning Expectations for your reference. Additional details regarding specific class expectations and schedules will also be shared by the building principal and/or teachers. Please note that the high school administrative offices remain operational and will be open by 7:30 AM should any family need to access their student lockers for resources or Chromebooks.
CIT shuttles will run on their normal schedule to and from the high school. However, families of PM CIT students will need to arrange transportation to NAHS, and families of AM CIT students will need to arrange transportation home from NAHS. Morning and afternoon bus transportation to and from NAHS will otherwise operate on a normal schedule.
Our team is actively working with our engineers and service providers to identify a solution and restore normal operations as quickly as possible. We will reassess the situation at the end of the day tomorrow, Wednesday, May 20th, and provide families and staff with an additional update regarding next steps.
All other schools in the district will remain open and operate on a normal schedule.
Athletics will operate as normally scheduled.
Thank you for your understanding, flexibility, and support as we work through this unexpected issue.
Regards,
Dr. Resende
