Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! I would like to welcome our incoming kindergarten students, new students, and all returning students and their families to Shafer Elementary. I can’t stress enough how important it is to enter the new school year with a positive and optimistic outlook. Our positive words become positive thoughts that lead to positive actions. Everything we do at Shafer is always done with the “The 3 E’s”… Energy, Enthusiasm, and Excellence!
Shafer Elementary provides a safe learning environment and a positive school culture that centers on the philosophy that all students can, and will, “Strive, Excel, and Succeed.” I wholeheartedly believe that the exceptional primary learning experience Shafer provides makes it one of the best elementary schools on the planet. I want to thank Shafer’s staff, students, and parents for creating and upholding Shafer’s high level of expectation year after year.
Shafer Elementary students will continue with our five building-level goals for the 2024-2025 school year that align with the district’s strategic plan. The first goal will continue to focus on improving student achievement in the content areas of English/Language Arts and Math. In ELA we will foster literacy independence through the implementation of our core reading program and literacy-based centers during our ELA block of instructional time. In the content area of mathematics, we will focus on increasing student achievement through the implementation of best mathematical practices, math centers, and the use of data analysis to guide our classroom instruction. Shafer’s second goal will ensure that the emotional and social needs of students are coordinated to support student relationships and foster positive learning outcomes. We will make a concerted effort to embed SEL strategies and practices with our staff and students on a regular basis. Third, we will continue to enhance our positive communication with parents and the entire Shafer School Community. Shafer’s fourth goal will be to infuse technology into daily classroom instruction using the Apple Platform. Students are provided a 1:1 iPad experience. And lastly, we will continue to foster a warm and nurturing primary school culture. We will provide a safe and secure building environment for all staff and students through the use of positive and preventative school/classroom-wide behavioral strategies and supports.
