Title I is a federally funded program designed to assist students in the area of reading. The overall purpose of the program is to ensure that all children have a fair and equal opportunity to obtain a high-quality education. A school wide program is a comprehensive reform strategy designed to upgrade the entire educational program in a Title I building. Nazareth Area Intermediate School--Grades 5-6 and Floyd R. Shafer Elementary School--Grades K-4 are Title I schoolwide schools.
The primary goal of a School Wide Title I building is to ensure that all students, particularly those who are low achieving, demonstrate proficient and advanced levels of achievement-on state academic standards in math and reading.
The emphasis of a schoolwide program is on serving all students, improving all structures that support student learning, and combining all resources, as allowed, to achieve a common goal. School-wide programs maximize the impact of Title I.
Our school wide plan was developed with the help of parents, teachers, and administrators. The schoolwide plan is evaluated annually to determine whether the academic achievement of all students has improved, particularly low-achieving students.
As a schoolwide building, the staff is looking at all students’ assessment data regularly. Any student displaying a deficit in any reading area will receive additional support to help that student become proficient. The support offered will be very flexible.
As a Title I School Wide building, all students are considered Title I students and all teachers are considered Title I teachers. Materials purchased with federal dollars can be used throughout the building for all students and all teachers. Your student will be able to receive additional support from all staff members.
As part of the Title I program’s federally required documentation, all Title I families will receive a family compact letter. The compact is a promise that the school, the parents, and the student will all work toward helping the student become a proficient reader.
